Welcome to WYB Rec Softball Machine Pitch 2023. This league is open to players who are in grades 1 and 2 for the 2022-23 school year (ages 6-9). This is the equivalent of coach pitch in baseball but we use a pitching machine for consistency. Players will have the chance to improve their base running, hitting, and fielding skills as well as start to practice pitching mechanics.

Teams are scheduled for at least 8 preseason practices, 6 in season practices and 12 games. Preseason practices begin the week of April 24th and continue through May 21st. Games are played on weeknights (Monday-Thursday) and Saturday mornings beginning May 23rd. The season is scheduled to end by July 1st.

Practice Information: Prior to the start of the regular season, teams are scheduled for two to three practices per week. All weekday practices begin at 5:30 PM or 6:45 PM and are 60 minutes in length. Practice days and times will be at the discretion of the coaches.

Game Start Time Information: Weeknight games begin at 6:00 PM & 8:00 PM and Saturday game start times are between 9:00 AM & 3:00 PM.

Rainouts & Rescheduling: Rainouts will be rescheduled throughout the season. The expectation is that at least 12 games will be played.

Jersey Information: All players will receive a team softball jersey for league play. Softball pants are required to be worn at the Junior and Senior level.

Equipment: Catcher's gear (chest protector, shin guards, and helmet), infielder face masks (2) and softballs are provided by WYB. Each girl should have their own batting helmet and some prefer their own infielder face mask. WYB does have batting helmets that could be loaned out to players or teams if needed. A fielder's face mask is highly recommended for all girls at this age to start getting used to wearing them but girls playing at the pitcher's mound and 1st base are REQUIRED to wear them.

Players are required to wear the WYB Softball game jersey and must wear a glove in the field. Softball cleats (no metal cleats) and pants (gray, white, or black) are optional. WYB encourages the sharing of bats to those who may not have one. These items are not provided by WYB and are not included in the registration fee.

Coaches Needed: Worthington Youth Boosters is a volunteer organization of parents providing sports programs for kids. If you are able and willing to serve as the head or assistant coach of your child's team, please register online.

Coaches' Clinic: The WYB Rec Softball Coaches' Clinic will be held on March 26th from 1-3pm at the Thomas Worthington High School Aux Gym. All coaches are required to attend. The clinic is scheduled to last 60 to 90 minutes. The clinic will be hosted by the Thomas Worthington and Kilbourne varsity coaches. Even if you are just considering coaching or being an assistant, please feel free attend the clinic.
